The Cat Exam

What does the doctor look for in a healthy cat?

What else happens during my cat's visit?

Perhaps the most important aspect of a physical examination is the patient's history.  A thorough review of your pet's past condition and current state is essential to fully evaluate each cat's health.  Factors such as age, sex (neutered or spayed), weight and diet play a role in the disease process.  It is important for you and the doctor to discuss these concerns when looking for the cause of, or solution to your cat's health problems.

Therefore, the key to a productive visit is the doctor's interaction with you, the pet's owner.  The veterinarian may ask you questions about your cat that may seem like they are not relevant to the problem at-hand, but to the doctor, the answers you give can help him or her diagnose and treat your cat's condition.  It is essential that you give thoughtful and honest answers to the doctor's questions.  In this way, you can help the veterinarian help your cat.
